What is NaYAN?

National Young Academy of Nepal (NaYAN) is an academy of Nepali young scientists. It aims to bring young scientists from different disciplines together, engage with business, civil society, media, and government, nurture early-career young scientists, and foster interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration among them. NaYAN tries to give a collective voice for all the young scientists in Nepal to meaningfully engage in dialogues of national and international importance in which science and research have roles.

National Young Academy of Nepal (NaYAN) is established within the framework of the constitution of Nepal. It is an autonomous, self-organized body with regard to the content of its academic activities. The NaYAN is not supervised or a subsidiary by any organ of a parent academy. All members of NaYAN have the status of a “Member of the National Young Academy of Nepal” and are not members, nor will they later be automatically elected as members of the National Academy of Sciences.

Objectives:

  • To provide a platform for NaYAN members to showcase and promote the academic and scientific works and actively participate in evidence-based policy development for rigorous academic and scientific activities.

  • To promote science as a career of choice for young people by recognising exceptional young scientists from all countries as role models, building capacity for scientific research of early career scientists and facilitating mentorships in collaboration with internationally recognised senior scientists.

  • To promote science by promoting science as an engine for socio-economic development, human progress, and environmental conservation.

  • To encourage development of novel approaches to the problems of national and international significance by fostering cross national and cross disciplinary collaborations between young scientists encouraging government, research foundations and other philanthropic organisations to channel resources into identified projects.
